Terms of use

The game

Gebeta is free to play. You can play against the computer, with a friend on the same device, and follow the lessons without an account. Gebeta, Selus, Kalah and the Weqer rules are traditional games; the app, its design, artwork, text and code are ours or used with permission.

Accounts

Online play needs an account, either a guest account or one saved with an email address. Keep your sign-in details to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account. You must meet the minimum age described in the privacy policy.

Fair play online

To keep online games fair and friendly, you agree not to:

• use another program, person or device to choose your moves in games against other players;
• use several accounts, or arrange results with another player, to change ratings;
• choose a username or display name that is offensive, impersonates someone else, or includes personal information about others;
• harass other players, or deliberately abandon or stall games to annoy opponents;
• interfere with the service, test its security without permission, or access other players’ data.

Ratings and the leaderboard

Ratings are calculated automatically from ranked games and are for fun only; they have no monetary value and cannot be exchanged. We may correct ratings, remove results or reset the leaderboard, for example after cheating or a technical fault. The game must not be used for gambling or betting.

Moves, timers and abandoned games

Online games have a move timer. If time runs out, a move may be played for you, and a player who repeatedly runs out of time or leaves may lose the game. Games left inactive are ended automatically. These rules apply equally to everyone and results are final, except where we correct them under these terms.

Enforcement

If you break these terms we may change your username, remove results, restrict online play or suspend your account. Where reasonable, we will tell you why. You can stop using the game at any time and ask us to delete your account.

Availability

We aim to keep the game running but can’t promise it will always be available, without errors, or that online play, accounts or saved data will always exist. We may change, suspend or end features, including online play, at any time. Offline play keeps working on your device as long as your browser keeps its data.

Liability

The game is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data, ratings or game history. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or rights you have as a consumer where you live.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date below shows the latest version; for significant changes we will tell you in the app. Continuing to use the game after a change means you accept the new terms.
